European Union Requests Apple to Allow Users to Delete Photos App

Fojap - It's no surprise that Apple is being pushed around by the new policies of the European Union. Not only is it forced to open the previously closed doors of the App Store, but the Cupertino giant also seems to be prevented from having too closed of an ecosystem.

So, what other policies is the European Union mandating to Apple this time? Rumors have it that Apple is asked to allow users to delete built-in iPhone apps like Photos. But why is that?

The latest statement from the European Union's Competition Chief, Margrethe Vestager, revealed that there are several areas where Apple has failed to respond to the DMA policy. As discovered by 9to5Mac, there are regulations that Apple has not complied with.

In her brief speech, Vestager mentioned that Apple has not complied with Article 6(3) of the market law:

Gatekeepers must allow the deletion of apps easily and enable easy switching of default apps. They must also display choice screens. It seems that Apple has failed to comply with these regulations. Apple also failed to make some apps deletable, for example, Photos.

The EU seems determined to unlock what has been tightly guarded by Apple. This situation forces Apple to completely change the way iOS operates for the European market. Failure to comply with the rules could lead to the tech giant being prohibited from selling their products there.

This new policy also makes Apple products more like Android, where every user is given the freedom to use the apps they want. It's not impossible that in the future, apps on the iPhone like the camera could also be deleted by users.

Whether this move by the European Union is good or not certainly raises pros and cons. On the one hand, it makes it difficult for corporations to monopolize, but on the other hand, it makes the product lose its identity. What do you think about it?
